What is an apostille?
An apostille is a certificate attached to a document that confirms it's genuine, so countries that belong to the Hague Apostille Convention will accept it. It verifies the signature or seal on the document, not the document's contents.
Who issues the apostille?
For California documents, the California Secretary of State. Morales Notarial Services prepares your document, notarizes it when needed, submits it, and returns it to you.
Notarized documents (powers of attorney, affidavits, consent forms, business and real estate documents), Certified copies of birth, marriage, and death certificates, Diplomas and school transcripts (usually need to be notarized first).
My document is federal or from another state. Can you help?
Federal documents, such as FBI background checks, go through the U.S. Department of State. Documents from other states go through that state's authority. Contact us and we'll point you in the right direction.
Will every country accept an apostille?
No. Only countries in the Hague Convention do. Other countries require a different process called legalization, which usually involves the embassy or consulate. Tell us your destination country and we'll help you figure out which applies.
Do I need a certified copy of my birth or marriage certificate?
Yes. Order a certified copy from the county recorder or the appropriate vital records office. A notary can't certify copies of public records.
What do I need for a notarization?
You must appear in person with valid photo ID, and you must sign in front of the notary. Don't sign beforehand.
How long does it take?
Processing times are set by the Secretary of State and change over time. I'll give you a realistic timeline when you book.
Mobile notary fees typically include the state-regulated notarization fee plus a travel fee based on your location. Contact me today for a quick quote and transparent pricing!
